July 8th -10th Arenal, Costa Rica - El Silencio del Campo

July 8 -10th

Fernando dropped Andrew and I off at El Silencio del Campo in Arenal. It was such a beautiful "resort" that we really felt like we walked into paradise!!!

It was genuinely hard for us to say goodbye to Fernando and we asked him if he was going to be our driver that Friday. He told us that he didn't know, but wished too, that he was our driver!!!

I just can't say it enough, I have never met someone so thoughtful and generous in a different country than I did when we met Fernando!!

When we first pulled up to the reception house, I didn't know if the people working there spoke English or not; so I totally went into my Spanish mode and trying to find the vouchers and everything for our stay.

Andrew frantically tried to figure out if Fernando was going to be our driver on Friday because we didn't have enough money to tip him what we wanted to. Through Andrew's Spanish and Fernando's English - we were able to tip Fernando! ( Andrew found some American money in his pocket - which Costa Ricans love to receive!!)

When we first got there, there was a man that brought us a fruit smoothie drink, and the woman working there told us that they saw that it was our Honeymoon vacation!

Not only did they give us one of their most modern and best house/rooms filled with fun folded towels and candles.....they also gave me...
a volcanic ash facial for FREE!!!! It was AWESOME!!! We ran to our "room/house" and I quickly changed to get ready!!!

I went and met the person that was giving me a facial and she took me into this "tented" area. (see video with the tour of hot springs)

This is not my image but it looked like this!

As I was lying there getting my facial, all I could hear was the water coming from the natural HOT SPRINGS from the volcano and the birds chirping and the animals of the rain forest. I quickly said to myself, "OMG - The last time I was getting a facial - I was lying in some building in cold ass Albany - in some room and I was listening to somebody's music CD of the rainforest! And now this is REAL!! I really hear MONKEYS!!!!!!!!!!"

And now I was living it for REAL! It was so moving, I told the lady that gave me the facial - she looked at me as though I had 10 heads - and no - it wasn't my rusty Spanish - but I really just don't think one would understand!!!!

Here are some pictures and videos of us at the place we stayed!!!

Andrew takes you on a walk down the trail through the "hotel" grounds and I show you what "would be" the Volcano!

This is the hot springs and the second video is of the volcano!!

Simply Beautiful! PURA VIDA!!!!

We can't say enough about the employees of the resort. Sandy told us that it was family owned. The man working the reception thought that his English was not very good, I told him that I was an ESL teacher and I would tell him the truth!

His English was great! He and the woman that worked there as well have great English and are so friendly and wonderful!!! We really, really enjoyed staying there!!! :)
